How Does Collaboration Work?

Every design starts with a conversation. I meet with you, the physician, to discuss any ideas you have. I want to make sure every room I paint is customized to fit your personality. Not only does this make the room unique to you, but it's funner for me, as I don't want to paint the same scenes over and over again. As such, I don't use a set of templates and I don't recycle the references I use.

So how does this work?

Before you commit to anything, contact me about a consultation. During this consultation, we meet in person, in your office. I take pictures of the room and record basic measurements while we talk about any ideas you have. Maybe we just talk about your interests and hobbies. You can be as detailed as you want or as hands-off as you want.

For example, I had a doctor who had very specific vision of what he wanted with very specific details. He wanted his grandchildren walking down a trail with the oldest petting a dragon because she loves dragons; He wanted the trail to curve around the corner so that it looked like they were hiking into Salt Lake Valley on the next wall with a view of downtown as the focus; He wanted the Great Salt Lake in the distance and he wanted it to turn into a bird refuge on the next wall; He wanted mythical and whimsical elements. This is a small example of the details he requested. Even as I was painting the room, he would ask for more small details, as inspiration struck. I was happy to accomodate his requests.

Conversely, I had a doctor who simply said he wanted a sports room and let me run with it. After the initial mockup stage, he requested a New York Yankees and North Carolina Tarheels logo, as these were personal to him.

Either way, I take our conversation and the pictures and I create a digital mockup of the design.

From here, you can make suggestions. Feedback is encouraged. I want the room to fit you, so don't hesitate to say you don't like something. For example, the original mockup of the sports room had a wall of trophies and the doctor felt that it sent the wrong message, so I changed it.
